Where We Came From

Now

In 1946, after serving in World War II where he was trained on how to fix and clean typewriters, William (Bill) D. Noordyk Sr. started “Noordyk Typewriter Service” from his parent’s basement.

Bill drove a service truck from one business to the next providing maintenance, cleanings and repairs to any brand of office typewriter. From this point on Bill Sr. was able to increase his knowledge and experience with not only typewriters, but other office equipment such as adding machines. In the 1960s, Bill added a cash register service center, “Noordyk Cash Registers”, to his business.

In addition to servicing cash registers, “Noordyk Cash Registers” was a dealer for Anchor Cash Registers throughout the entire state of Michigan. This growth in business required him to hire a small staff and move the business out of his parent’s basement into a home on 1145 Leonard NW, where he shared the storefront home with his father’s business, “Noordyk Insurance”.

By 1968, the business was doing so well that they outgrew the shared location with Bill’s father, allowing him to buy a building at 1501 Alpine Ave. With this move, he sold “Noordyk Cash Registers” to another company and grew his staff to 10 employees, broadening his service and sales departments. The industry had transformed tremendously since opening the business in 1946. Bill continued to service all varieties of office equipment, and began buying used office equipment, servicing and fixing it refurbishing for sale. In 1976 William (Bill) A. Noordyk Jr. started as a full time employee at “Noordyk Typewriter Service”. Around this time they began selling new office equipment. Noordyk’s became a dealer for Brother Typewriters, Olivetti Typewriters, Roneo Vickers Mimeographs, and Spirit Duplicators. They were presented an award for selling over 400 Spirit Duplicators in 2 years, putting them in the top 2% in the nation for Spirit Duplicator Dealers. This growth within the business encouraged Bill to rename “Noordyk Typewriter Service” to its current name “Noordyk Business Equipment”.

In 1988, Bill Jr. bought “Noordyk Business Equipment” on 1501 Alpine Ave. from his father, Bill Sr. who at that time retired. As technology changed, printers and copiers began to replace mimeographs and duplicators, so Bill took on Sharp, Canon and Kyocera. Continuing changes in the industry provided growth within the business; Bill opened up a secondary location in Muskegon and grew the total staff size to 13 employees, one of whom was responsible for remanufacturing toner cartridges in house. Fax machines became popular and color printers and copiers were introduced. Bill opened a print shop within “Noordyk Business Equipment” at the Alpine location for businesses to outsource their printing.

Continued growth found Noordyk’s bursting at the seams and in 2007 Bill moved the business from the Alpine Ave. location into 3606 Remembrance Rd. NW. This location supplies a machine showroom, large service center and warehouse – along with a focus on selling new equipment, specifically as a Konica Minolta dealer. This change in our business required additional staff increasing the total staff size to 20 employees. As technology continues to evolve, we are changing with the industry. We now proudly offer MBM and Brother for office equipment and software solutions such as Intellinetics, PaperCut MF, and PageScope Mobile.

New in 2023, Noordyk Business Equipment acquired Capitol Communications Systems in Lansing, MI. This has expanded our territory making Noordyk the largest Konica Minolta dealer in Michigan! Renovations are currently underway in Lansing and we are excited to offer the same excellent service and top of the line products to more businesses in Michigan!

Our Team

Meet Our Team

Bill Noordyk

President & Owner

Bill is the second generation owner of Noordyk Business Equipment. He started working at Noordyk in 1976 and eventually took over operations from his father who founded the company in 1946. He worked hard for 40+ years to grow this family company, capitalizing on his negotiation and people skills to serve clients. Bill can talk to anyone and everyone. And as the team has expanded, Bill has been able to hand over the reins of running the family business to the next generation. As owner, he serves in an advisory capacity, always willing to lend his insight whenever it’s needed. Watching the company blossom and flourish in the capable hands of his team brings him a lot of joy these days, but when he’s not guiding the business, you can find him elbows deep in his new hobby: making knives and knife sheaths. And it’s not unusual to find him enjoying time at his Kalkaska and Grayling cabins with his ever-growing family.

Cara Hendges

Vice President

As a third generation Noordyk in the family business, she is familiar with its ins and outs. Cara served the company as a teenager, then came back years later as Sales Support Manager, handling sales orders from start to finish as the coordinator between sales, service, and administrative teams. She provides guidance to team members, solves challenges as they arise, boosts overall organization, and brings direction to the sales process. She is also passionate about training employees and helping them succeed, keeping watch over their professional well being. Cara’s decisiveness, powers of organization, and strong communication skills provide cohesiveness to the entire Noordyk team. Outside of work, Cara is spending time with her husband and four children either at home, at the cottage, or finding new adventures in Michigan.

Robyn S. Noordyk

Office Manager & Owner

While Robyn is owner of Noordyk Business Equipment, she also serves as office manager with an emphasis on administration and human resources in her role. She began her journey with the company in 1980 for two years, took a break for other pursuits, and then rejoined the staff in 1999. Robyn applies her extensive experience and understanding from previous roles in medical, legal, and non-profit sectors to meet customer needs creatively. She excels in finding individual solutions to customer challenges, leveraging her years of experience with Noordyk to enhance both customer and team satisfaction. Robyn enjoys getting away with her husband Bill to their two cabins up north where they ride quads, fish on the lake, or go wine tasting. When she’s home in Grand Rapids, she’s never far from her grandchildren.

Shawn Kelly

Director of Operations

Shawn joined the Noordyk team in 2012. His role has evolved over the years as the company has grown. Initially he was tasked with organizing the service department and implementing new software. He then made significant gains in improving profitability and secured Konica Minolta Protech status. Now, Shawn serves as a guide, focusing on what's best for the company while supporting the sales department with acquiring major and production print accounts. He has a knack for translating technical information for non-technical people and finds joy in helping the company expand and adapt to evolving technology. Shawn owns and operates a family construction company with his son in his “free time,” and they have completely renovated many homes in the area as well as the Lansing office post-acquisition. And in the moments in between all of that, Shawn is regularly creating something new from scratch in his kitchen (and his cooking is highly sought after at the office).

Will Noordyk

Production Print Manager & Sales Director: Lansing

Since joining the Noordyk team officially in 2021, Will has brought a passion for supporting and serving both the sales team and Noordyk’s client base. Seven years as a mechanic in the tool-and-die machine repair industry taught him how to focus on details and solve problems. He now brings those skills to his role overseeing the daily operations of multiple locations, managing major Noordyk accounts, and personally managing the sales of production print equipment. When Will’s off the clock, he enjoys cooking. He also actively fosters dogs and especially loves spending time with his own rescue pup, Goose (an all white German Shepherd).

Terrence Smith

Field Service Manager

Terry thrives on discovering challenges and delivering solutions that ensure a positive experience for both service technicians and customers. His career has ranged from working in small family businesses to global organizations. He's worked in Alaska's harsh -50°F climates, flown to remote villages, and navigated the Gulf of Alaska by ferry. Now at Noordyk Business Equipment, Terry draws from nearly 30 years of industry experience to provide top-quality assistance as Field Service Manager, using his problem-solving skills to deliver outstanding support to our clients.

Aimee Paulson

Major Accounts Manager

Aimee has been building strong relationships with Noordyk customers since 2020. A former teacher, Aimee educates clients on managing their printer and copier fleets, always delivering attentive and effective service. Originally from Missouri, she's enjoyed life in West Michigan for over 15 years. In summer, she loves camping with her husband and dog, while in winter, she turns to snowshoeing and cozy reading. She loves people and never shies away from finding a solution to any kind of problem.

Sharon Marquez

Director of Sales: Grand Rapids

Sharon’s decade-plus industry experience, including a sales manager role at a California company, has served her well in her directorship at Noordyk. She has an especially strong foundation of industry and sales knowledge thanks to her training from a highly respected industry specific training program and prior roles. She focuses on guiding the sales team and managing with direct, hands-on methods. This includes hiring new sales staff, offering business-to-business sales training for reps starting their career in sales, and continuous training for the experienced. Equipping the sales team with skills and knowledge to educate and provide the right solution for clients is a top priority of hers. One of Sharon’s goals is to build strong working relationships in her department and across the company so there is no disconnect between each unique role. Helping others and watching them achieve their short and long term goals (both personal and professional) brings her a lot of joy, and she loves bringing people together. If you can’t find Sharon in her office, she is usually out in the field with a rep or connecting with peers. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and 3 dogs.

With 15 years of billing expertise under her belt, Danita takes pride in her work and demonstrates great attention to detail. She is very customer-oriented in her role, helping customers find solutions to any issue they face. Danita has been married for over 40 years, loves her grandchildren, and is an avid quilt-maker, particularly enjoying the more challenging quilt patterns and techniques.

Lisa Holznagel

Dispatch & Customer Service Specialist

Lisa thrives on organization and variety in her role at Noordyk. Since joining the team in 2018, she has supported multiple departments with a variety of tasks including answering phones, entering service calls and orders, receiving and shipping out supplies and parts, and entering accounts payable invoices. Lisa's knack for organization keeps operations running smoothly across all teams — as does her 25+ years of office experience. Away from work, Lisa enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her animals.

Christina Houghton

Administrative Assistant

She joined the Noordyk team in 2023, and has hands-on experience in nearly every aspect of operations. Her 30+ years of industry experience (in the very same office that was acquired by Noordyk) can be seen in everything she sets her hands to. And, she takes pride in providing excellent customer support and resolving issues quickly and efficiently. At home, Christina owns six mastiffs that she loves dearly and shows all over the Midwest.

Quinn Driggs

Delivery & Installation Specialist

Quinn joined the team in 2024 bringing with him a knack for problem solving and a passion for IT networking and security. He has quickly become the go-to expert for printer delivery and installation in the Noordyk family. Thanks to his love for technology, video gaming, and computers from a young age as well as his vocational school education, Quinn is able to train our customers on printer functionality and other technical details. He also loves to see them smile when he’s able to help them solve their technical issues. Though he has a strong logical mindset, he loves a good joke and is always looking to bring a smile to those around him.
